A group of Special Forces are framed for killing children. They are pissed and want their lives back and so they make a deal with Aisha (Zoe Saldana) to get back into America and seek revenge on Max (Jason Patric) who framed them. Losers.
I had Captain America on the brain. I watched Chris Evans to see if I saw a spark of CA, something that would give me hope. What I saw was subtle things that point to him having the ability to be serious enough to pull off CA. It wasn’t huge, but it gave a sliver of hope…as did his physical build.
A ragtag team of specialist going after a single target is fun to watch. It’s thrilling. It’s not exhilarating, but not all entertaining things are. I didn’t fall asleep like I did during Kick-Ass. Is it better than Kick-Ass? Not if you loved Kick-Ass. I thought it was ok and therefore liked Losers better and that’s just because. There’s not a solid answer. It’s a total preference thing.
Jason Patric as Max had me laughing. He talked in a matter-of-fact way with dry sarcasm. His self assurance of how a situation would go was bizarrely fun. Everyone else was fun, just not as quirky.
Losers is a fun, enjoyable, mind lazy movie. It did not take a lot of effort to follow. The credits had pretty cool graphics. It was a great filler movie. I didn’t have much to pick from this weekend. I most likely will not see a movie next weekend. Horror movies don’t do it for me. I’ll be fine until Iron Man 2 thanks to Losers. Losers is like a great snack or appetizer before the main course. Kick-Ass was like a terrible tasting hors d'oeuvres with a bad aftertaste. Summer’s tripping as it stretches at the starting line. Hopefully Iron Man 2 will lead Summer with an awesome start, because as our Summer Movie Review shows…it ain’t much to look forward to.
