Weekend Box Office Recap

"New Moon" takes the prize for being both the box office winner and the biggest loser of the top ten at the same time.

Summit Entertainment's Twilight saga sank a staggering 70% from its massive opening weekend numbers last week, yet managed to keep a pasty fingerhold on the top spot by a couple million bucks. The emo-vamp sequel just barely squeaked past Warner's "The Blind Side," which improved its numbers 17% to finish the weekend with $40.125 million.

And despite more demand for family and male teen movies over the Thanksgiving weekend, newcomers "Old Dogs" and "Ninja Assassin" only managed to come in 4th and 6th respectively.

Here's the top ten for the weekend, according to studio estimates.

1 (1) The Twilight Saga: New Moon $42,500,000
2 (2) The Blind Side $40,125,000
3 (3) 2012 $18,000,000
4 (new) Old Dogs $16,846,000
5 (5) Disney's A Christmas Carol $16,003,000
6 (new) Ninja Assassin $13,135,000
7 (4) Planet 51 $10,200,000
8 (6) Precious (Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire) $7,090,000
9 (24) The Fantastic Mr. Fox $7,020,000
10 (7) The Men Who Stare at Goats $1,533,000
