Mary Horowitz (Sandra Bullock) is a weird crossword puzzle maker who falls for a blind date. Steve (Bradley Cooper) is the unfortunate person in that blind date. She follows him everywhere and weird words fall out of her mouth. All About Steve.
Many critics did not like this film. One even had the retarded idea that this movie is the worst film Sandra Bullock has done. They must not have seen Speed II: Cruise Control. I mean…hello…the title is stupid. Sandra Bullock even admits to that being the worst movie she’s made and I readily agree. All About Steve had issues, but it was not as terrible as that film. I think some people are passing on their movie frustration over the summer to any movie that deserves it. I mean come on did they not see Fast & Furious? Geezs…
For the first quarter of the movie I could see the boom mike. That was really distracting. That was also really stupid. I don’t know if it had something to do with the theater getting the wrong reel, but whatever it was it was just not cool. I have ignored such infractions before (Disturbia) and moved on to the story and that’s what I’ll have to do here. Some stated that Mary was not someone they could empathize with. I personally saw that there are people like that that are just awkward and yet harmless, people just feel uncomfortable around them because of how different they are. But they have every right to exist like people who are self centered, hot and condescending. Anyway her character did not bug me in such a manner. I actually liked her.
The entire film (even though having some actors from great movies of the year) was B movie-ish. It was hackish in the way the story was put together and it wasn’t very smooth rolling. I am not mistaken in thinking that I saw trailers for this film the end of 2008 for it to be released in the Spring of 2009. It not happening could be because it just had so much wrong with it that they decided to hold it back to do some damage control. Guess they didn’t do enough.
I don’t know if I’ll own it. It’s an ok movie that has some good laughs, but over all it’s very mediocre in a good way. I don’t know if it could have been much more because of the story idea and the characters, but at least the ending wasn’t story book-ish. It is not one of my favorite Sandra Bullock movies, but it isn’t one of my least favorites. The only one I really did not like was Speed II. All About Steve isn’t something you should see in the theaters. Wait for DVD release so that you can feel as if you got your money’s worth.
