Robert Downey as the Vampire Lestat?

As much as I love to make fun of the glittery emo vamps of Twilight, it's undeniable that its' success has spawned a rebirth in the vampire genre. With the success of the little fang flick Summit cranked out, it was only a matter of time before other studios would try to cash in on the craze.

With that thought in mind, Universal is digging up Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles and horror movie website Bloody Disgusting has CONFIRMED that Universal is in talks with Robert Downey Jr. to play the vampire Lestat Du Lioncourt from the novels.

Its been 15 years since Tom Cruise donned the goofy teeth and crushed velvet for Lestat in "Interview with the Vampire." Having read the books, I personally never thought Cruise was the right choice for such an enigmatic character as Lestat. Neither was Stuart Townsend in the terrible sequel "Queen of the Damned." But Robert Downey Jr? Yes. I can see that. I can see that quite clearly.

No other details are given about the project, but if we find out anything more, I'll post it here.
