"Kung Fu Kid" gets a re-write

Columbia Pictures has brought in Steven Conrad (best known for his work on "The Pursuit of Happyness") to help massage the script for the new reboot of the Karate Kid. The new film is called "Kung Fu Kid" and the Daniel-san character will be played by Will Smith's son Jaden.

The new film also stars Taraji P. Henson as Jaden Smith's Mother and Jackie Chan in the Mr. Miagi role. But Brad from Ropes of Silicon says, don't expect anything new out of this:

...the story itself is expected to remain very much the same only names and locations have changed. Dre and his mother move, Dre gets in fights with bullies, meets Mr. Han, starts painting the fence and then wins the battle in the end.

The film is set to start shooting next month for a June 10, 2010 release, which means that almost exactly one year from now, we will all be talking about how terrible the remake of "The Karate Kid" was.

Sorry Mr. Conrad, you might be re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

I imagine that it will be a little different, right? I mean he's too young to be chasing after the girl character, right? I mean look at him! He's not 17/18.
