Weekend Box Office Recap: To Boldly Reboot

Must everything in the new Star Trek universe be sparkly and occurring off-camera?

Apparenly so. As expected, JJ Abrams reboot of the Star Trek franchise blew away the competition for the box office race this weekend, earning an estimated $76 million by Sunday night and cementing itself as the biggest weekend for any film in Star Trek history. (its closest competitor was 1996's Star Trek: First Contact, which earned $30million in its opening bow.)

Meanwhile Wolverine drops 68% from its opening weekend to land in second place with $27 million.
