Coppola Channels Felini in "Tetro"

Francis Ford Coppola is finally back to wrestle the creative reins away from his hack daughter.

Tetro is Francis's first original screenplay since 1974's "The Conversation."

"The reason why so much time has gone by before doing the work that I really always wanted to do is sort of about how my career went and took me in other directions I wasnt expecting to go," the five time Oscar winner says.

Set in Argentina, the story follows "the rivalries born out of creative differences passed down through generations of an artistic Italian immigrant family. "

Judging by the trailer, it looks like its shot mostly in black and white and has that classic "cinema verite" look. Coppola is either ripping off Felini or poking fun at those odd-ball perfume commercials ormuch worse - desperately trying to stay marketable in a topsy-turvy industry. All it needs is a crying clown for no particular reason and you've got an instant hit (at least with the film school nerds)

Here's the trailer. Let me know what you think:
