Hollywood News: Weekend Box Office Recap

"Taken" was the number one film in the box office this weekend, bringing in $24.6 million. Last week's winner Paul Blart managed to keep its appeal with audiences a little while longer and came in 2nd with $14 mil.

The other new films didn't fare quite as well. "The Univited" came in third and the god-awful rom-com "New In Town" placed 8th. It currently sits at 20% over at Rotten Tomatoes, with most people agreeing that Ms. scrunchy-eyed, pouty-lipped Zellweger's cliche-ridden wackadoodle performance was the frosting on this cake of crap.

Joe Morgenstern from the Wall St Journal summed it up nicely:

"The month of January has come to be known as a graveyard for bad movies, but how bad can it get? This one answers the question."

Here's the top ten for the weekend.
