Hollywood News: Opening This Weekend

Variety posed the question, "Is January the new 'it' month for the box office?"

Are they kidding?

There are four films opening, all vying to take advantage of the three day MLK weekend: Sony's boilerplate dumb-joke comedy "Paul Blart: Mall Cop," Lionsgate's throw shit at the lens and charge more for it 3D flick "My Bloody Valentine," Fox Searchlight's biopic "Notorious" on murdered rapper Biggie Smalls and Paramount's saccharine, family-pandering "Hotel for Dogs."

Also, Daniel Craig's WWII film "Defiance" opens wide.

Personally, I think all of these films are garbage. The bottom of the barrel that the studios are scraping to the surface to make a few bucks.

Valentine is scoring the highest numbers at Rotten Tomatoes (71%) and the rest are below 54%.

We should have reviews of everything coming out sometime Monday. If you've seen one or all of these flicks, leave a comment and let us know what you think.
