The BBC announced this weekend that 26 year old actor Matt Smith will play the next Dr. Who in the long-running BBC television program.

A relative unknown from Northampton, his most celebrated role to date was in the original stage production of Alan Bennett's The History Boys. On screen he has featured in BBC adaptations of Philip Pullman's The Ruby in the Smoke and The Shadow in the North alongside Doctor Who favourite Billie Piper. He won't been seen in the Tardis until the end of the year, when David Tennant, the tenth Doctor, will "regenerate" during the 2009 Christmas special.
