Hollywood News: Weekend Box Office Recap

In the last weekend before Christmas, the three new movies were the top three films at the box office. A much more predictable outcome compared to last weeks craziness.

Jim Carey's flick beat Will Smith as "Yes Man" bows at $18.1 million. "Seven Pounds" took $16 million. The animated "The Tale of Desperaux" took in $10.5 million.

Tom Cruise's brief respite at having the number one film in America was apparently only good for one week as "The Day the Earth Stood Still" fell almost 67% from its opening bow to land in 4th place.

And Mickey Rourke's "The Wrestler"opened in only 4 theaters across the US but pulled in over $52,000 per screen. Expect this one to open bigger next week as Fox Searchlight uses the tactic to help generate word of mouth for the Oscar Contender.

Here's the top ten for the weekend.

1 (new) Yes Man $18,160,000
2 (new) Seven Pounds $16,000,000
