Skeeter Bronson (Adam Sandler) had a father who had a hotel that was to go to him, however his father had to sell it and now all Skeeter does at the new hotel is be the handyman. Wendy (Courteney Cox) his sister has to go and find another job because the school she works at is closing down. So she needs him to watch her kids Patrick (Jonathan Morgan Heit) and Bobbi (Laura Ann Kesling) while she’s gone. Bedtime Stories.

It is a high rating for a children’s film that is not an animated one, but with the bland fare that is marketed for kids and then not so great for the adults to sit through I think that if a film is good for the kids and the adults it’s worthy of a high mark. Bedtime Stories is just that. It is clean enough for the kids and still funny enough for the adults so that all can enjoy it.

Adam Sandler is amusing and charming in this film as well as are the children Jonathan Morgan Heit and Laura Ann Kesling. Courteney Cox is pleasant. Russell Brand (Who plays Mickey one of the waiters at the hotel as well as Skeeter’s friend) is very good. He has great comedic timing, I think, and if he was more like his characters when he did comedy he would be even funnier and less obnoxious. Guy Pearce (Kendall the next in line to get the hotel business) is icky and creepy and just as his character should be played. Keri Russell (who plays Jill the love interest) and Lucy Lawless (Aspen the mean concierge) are the two fun actresses that make the film more pleasant and entertaining. Lucy also is really hot looking in short black hair.

The stories that Skeeter tells are weird tales but because the children help him out they turn into funny tales as well as tales that magically come true. It is amusing how the stories come true because they don’t always become as literal as one might think. That is one of the creative aspects of this film that I like the interpretations of the stories.

There is a bunch of humor in this film that comes from the way the stories are told, shown and so forth. But it is also due to the cast and how they react to certain situations as well as their acting. The concept of the entire story is a bit silly so the actors have to convince the moviegoers, like myself, that the story is worth believing and I think they all did a great job of conveying that. Yes it’s easily predictable but the predictable part doesn’t matter when the way it’s done is different and entertaining.

All parents like to take their children to films that they too can enjoy and that is what’s great with Bedtime Stories. It can be entertaining for the little ones as well as entertaining for the parents, enough so that it’s not annoying. I’m making notes so that when I have kids I’ll be able to have films and shows that I like that won’t be intrusive on my life. I understand kids like to watch things over and over again and in order to not end up with dead children I need what they watch over and over again be something I can tolerate to be watched over and over again. Bedtime Stories has secured a spot on that list.

I like trailers that don’t reveal a whole lot, but this has got to be one of the worst ones of the year because it reveals far too much. I think if they kept from showing too much of what the stories were about and the outcomes that it would have been more enjoyable. I still enjoyed it a lot, but I like when a trailer doesn’t tell the entire tale.

Bedtime Stories is fun movie that goes out of its way to entertain those that it was marketed for and it does a great job. I’m not going to want to have this one, not yet, but when I have kids I’ll be sure to have this one on the ‘they can watch over and over again’ list.
