Zack (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) live together. They are behind on their bills. They need money. They decided to make a shhh together. Zack and Miri Make a…you know….

To mock Utah and their stupid idea of blocking a movie from coming and allowing Saw V to arrive, I’ve decided not to say the P word at all. That’s how I roll.

If you watch “House” you know that Dr. House is not a nice person. Now when he decides to be nice people don’t buy it because they think he’s up to something, so his nice is not seen as sincere. That is how Zack and Miri Make a shhh reminded me of with its raunchy humor trying to be heartwarming. It didn’t work, nor did it go well together. That made the whole movie fail, it just could not find its footing with what it wanted.

The humor was nothing impressive, either. I laughed, because there were good scenes like the hand warmer scene, the blockage/unblockage scene, the “you’re in gay porn” scene and, of course, the unexpected nudity scene, those are always a bit shocking and funny. The rest was a bit trite and overdone and seen it before. I was not impressed. If it was not for the fact that I had to waste a bit of time before going somewhere else I would have gotten up and left.

The acting was nothing spectacular and neither was the script. I was not at all impressed. I was disappointed and this is one of those times I would really like to have my money back. They should have paid me to waste my time with this.

The good thing is that there were clever set ups in the film. Like introducing something simply and then using it later in the film to have the story progress. Those are the shinning moments in this film. There are not a lot of them, but a few that make it worth mentioning.

What genre is it? Comedy. How long is a comedy suppose to be? One hour and a half. This one is eleven minutes too long. And those have to be the longest eleven minutes I’ve ever endured and I just took my first spin class yesterday and I still think that.

It is movies like this that make me wonder why I enjoy going to the theater. Kevin Smith needs to be less contrived and more creative and unique. Zack and Miri should have had a bake sell and things would have been funnier and less unnecessarily graphic; though Tom Thumb shoving his finger in a pie and pulling out a plum is very sexually suggestive.
