The mayor of the town of Batman, alongside the Batman river in the province of Batman, Turkey (seriously, look it up) is suing Warner Brothers, director Christopher Nolan and anyone else who might have some money in their pockets for using the city's name without permission.
Batman city mayor Huseyin Kalkan claims that the city has undergone "emotional distress" from the unauthorized name dropping, which he claims has caused an increase in the city's female suicide rate and several unsolved murders.
"There is only one Batman in the world," Says the mayor. "The American producers used the name of our city without informing us."
The obvious answer here is that the mayor is looking to make a few bucks. However according to Wikipedia, since the major product of the province is oil, one would think they dont need any more money. The province also has Turkey's oldest refinery.
According to E! news, Warner Brothers haven't officially been handed any legal paperwork and my guess is that its very unlikely that the oil-producing town will be seeing one thin dime from the franchise, whose latest film has grossed nearly one billion dollars worldwide.
But hey, now we all know that there is a city in the world named Batman.
