Hollywood News: Weekend Box Office Recap

No surprises this time around, as Disney/Pixar's "WALL-E" took the weekend with a $62.5 mil open. Angelina Jolie's "Wanted" came in a close second, beating my estimate by a long shot. Originally I had predicted that "WALL-E" would bring in "mid 60 million" and "Wanted" would bring in about $35 million. Wanted ended up clearing over $51 million for the weekend and gave the animated robot an unexpected run for the money.

Also no surprise this weekend was the fact that Mike Meyer's "Love Guru" fell faster than a boulder down the Andes mountains at 60% from its opening weekend. However Guru's predictable plummet was beaten in the race to the bottom by M. Night Shyamalan's "The Happening" which dropped 63% from last weekend and cleared $3.8 mil this weekend.

Here's the top ten for this weekend:

1 (new) WALL-E $62,500,000
2 (new) Wanted $51,117,500
3 (1) Get Smart $20,000,000
4 (3) Kung Fu Panda $11,746,000
5 (2) The Incredible Hulk $9,226,495
6 (4) The Love Guru $5,440,000
7 (6) Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull $5,030,000
8 (5) The Happening $3,850,000
9 (8) Sex and the City $3,770,000
10 (7) You Don't Mess With the Zohan $3,200,000

I've got to get in on this predicting thing. I guesstimated that Wall-E would pull $65 million and that Wanted would get $45 million.

Wall-E was such a great movie! It's bound to be a favorite for years to come. I'm very surprised that Wanted made that much.
