Rick Riker (Drake Bell) is a parody character of Peter Parker and goes through the parody motions of Spider-Man as Dragonfly the superhero klutz of Superhero Movie.
I expected nothing because it’s a parody and that should make people have low expectations. Maybe some people believe parodies to be elongated comedy sketches that go on an hour an 20 minutes too long. Those would be the kinds of people that should just avoid this film. Those that are into the silly and the retarded kinds of humor will enjoy the film. I am one of those people.
I like superheroes and their films, even this one. Though the problem I had with a movie called Superhero Movie it surely did focus on mainly one superhero, when it could have had more than just one for funny factor. It did have random cameos by other heroes, but they were not as involved in the story line and just seemed as if they were tossed in for humor that was totally lost. It would have been better to have more time with other heroes or none of the other heroes and only focus on Dragonfly. What happened when they brought in the cameos was it just stopped the story line and it made zero sense to the entire silly whole.
There were several parts that I found funny, but there was one part I found really funny and it was the scene that parody when Spider-Man jumped up on the ceiling to hide from the villain and the blood dripped from his arm making a splash on the ground. What happened in the movie is very funny. It’s stupid funny, but it was my favorite part. The scene where he gets bit by the dragonfly is pretty funny because he fell in perfect poop and had to clean his shirt. He grabbed the H20 but failed to realize that there was one more letter. It as amusing what happens next. Then there’s the face rain/kiss scene with Spider-Man and Mary Jane and they parody it in this film. It’s just silly. Oh and of course there is a scene with farting and kissing, or I should say almost kissing. That was a good scene. Sara Paxton pulls off an unusual visual that just sticks in the mind.
Drake Bell and Sara Paxton work well together. I would love to see the outtakes in this movie. I think they’d have the humor. I liked Marion Ross, who played Aunt Lucille, because she had to do things that I couldn’t imagine my grandmother doing.
Superhero Movie is a movie you either like it or you hate it. If you see it you should know what you’re getting into and that is a movie that is totally silly and lack any sense of concrete place in reality, either this one or the one in the comics. I liked it and did not find anything horribly wrong with how they decided to do the film. The pace is good and the humor is just on par with a movie like this. Superhero Movie might stumble about, but at least it’ll make fun of itself and those that wear tights and save the world. It takes nothing serious, not even farting. Super-Silly to the DUH factor of seven.
