Is Katie Couric leaving/ being asked to leave the talking head chair at CBS?
It depends on you you talk to.
Both the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post say that after two years of record-low ratings on the CBS Evening News, execs and people close to Katie say she will likely leave well before her 5 year, $75 million contract is up in 2011.
However, the Los Angeles Times says that its not going to happen:
"We are very proud of the 'CBS Evening News,' particularly our political coverage, and we have no plans for any changes regarding Katie or the broadcast," a spokeswoman said in a statement.
Of course, this is what you would have to expect from a spokesperson.
There's a saying in the news business: people will never trust an official spokesperson, but they will always beleive an anonymous source.
Either way, I bet that Dan Rather is sitting in his office at HD Net laughing his ass off.
