More than a year after the deal was first announced, it appears that that the DOJ has finally approved the merger of the Sirius and XM satellite services. They stated that the combination was not anti-competitive and that other outlets existed that presented significant options for media customers.
The FCC must still weigh in and give it's blessing but this first hurdle has passed.
The fact that it took over a year to reach this point has admittedly made me a bit skeptical that it was ever going to get approved. I am glad that those in charge were able to see past the money being thrown at this by the lobbyists and do the right thing for the consumers, giving us the choice to have a viable alternative to terrestrial radio.
Waiting to see what happens next, and looking forward to listening to Howard Stern tomorrow for his take on things.
