New Tropic Thunder Trailer

Here's the new trailer for the Ben Stiller comedy "Tropic Thunder." Through a series of freak occurrences, a group of actors shooting a big-budget war movie are forced to become the soldiers they are portraying. It stars Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr, Nick Nolte, Bill Hader and Brandon T. Jackson.

And according to IMDB, it also includes Tom Cruise, Matthew McConaughey, and Tobey Maguire?

The big controversy about this film is the fact that Robert Downey Jr's character is black. Apparently the part was originally cast for a black actor, but was re-cast for Downey and they thought that it would be funny to have the character be a white actor in black-face. "At the end of the day, it's always about how well you commit to the character," Downey says. "If I didn't feel it was morally sound, or that it would be easily misinterpreted that I'm just C. Thomas Howell [in Soul Man], I would've stayed home."

And after watching the trailer, I have to agree that the makeup for Downey is pretty good. There are reports that people are not happy about a white man playing a black man. I guess its OK for Eddie Murphey to look like a old Jewish guy, or any one of several other white characters but its not OK for a white actor to do a black face.

People need to get over it. As long as they dont also throw in all the old stereotypes as well, it could be a really funny character.

Watch the trailer and let me know what you think.

O...M...G! That looks totally awesome! And you're right, Robert Downey, Jr. does look pretty good as a Black guy, and I like the voice, too.

I was lovin the cast before I even watched the trailer. I would definitely go see this, it has huge comedic potential!

Not a big fan of Ben Stiller movies. This will probably be a DVD rental for me!

You are right about if it's done right then there should be no problems and I don't see where a problem should arise.

I never read any complaints about Mikey Rooney playing a Japanese man and they did not do that right at all...caricatured as if he jumped off a WWII propaganda pamphlet.

I, of course, will have to see this film...but also want to. ha.
