Saying that the film has greater potential as a summer tentpole, Paramount has bumped the release of JJ Abrams Star Trek film from December 25, 2008 to May 8, 2009. This is now carefully slotted between Fox's release of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and Sony's release of "Angels and Demons"
There is a lot of re-positioning of films right now in the wake of the writers strike aftermath. We've already talked about the mad dash to get television projects into production, and now we are seeing things from the film side that show Hollywood is frantically jockeying for position as everyone gets back to work.
Variety reports that several films have been shuffled around , and some new films have been given release dates.
Here's the run-down so far:
Expect a lot more announcements to be made by all the studios as calendars start getting filled up and projects get started.

Though I'm bummed it's bumped by 5 months, I'm still excited to see it. Hopefully JJ won't ruin it for us. Note however... Star Trek II was awesome, IV was cool, VI was fun, First Contact was cool, Nemesis wasn't horrid, but this one seems to be an odd numbered movie. It's #11 by my count of Trek movies. Odd #s don't fare well. However, I'll stay optimistic. :) --Fitz
Since so much is riding on this franchise, I want them to take their time and get it right. Not really keen on the premise, but if it tanks then we probably won't get further Trek films.
