Ringo Walks Away From Regis

CNN (via AP) is reporting that Ringo Starr had been scheduled to appear on "Live With Regis and Kelly", to hock his new album "Liverpool 8." Ringo planned to perform the title track from the album on the show, however the show's musical director informed Starr that due to difficulties in trying to squeeze a talk show between the all-important commercial advertising breaks, Ringo's 4 minute song would have to be cut down to something under 2 and 1/2 minutes.

Ringo's publicist Elizabeth Freund said that the former Beatle tried to cut the song down, but could only sacrifice about 1 minute 15 seconds of his creativity to the corporate gods. The producers of the television show informed them that this was not good enough:
"We offered to cut back our chat time and asked them to fade or go to commercial. They were not willing to do that and Ringo was not willing to cut it further, so without a compromise we were not able to stay," Freund said in a statement to The Associated Press. "Ringo left saying, 'God bless and goodbye. We still love Regis.' "
It just goes to show you that even if you are a member of the most famous musical band in the universe, you better make damn sure that any song you write is under 3 minutes or you will face getting the ax from Regis Philbin.

I usually am put out by the antics of the famous, but in this case I have to side with Ringo. Come on, this is Ringo Starr here, not some American Idol wannabe! If you don't have time for one of the two remaining Beatles to sing a whole song live on your show, then your show has the problem, not Ringo. Ya blew this one, Gellman!

ha! Regis sucks!

For God's sake you are talking about Ringo Starr. I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't find the time. After all, you knew about it since November. Some people and talent you just make room for.

Regis and Kelley should have given up 2 minutes of their meaningless chit chat for Ringo! Why does Regis even have a show?!

I'm totally down with Ringo!

Are we so frickin' A.D.D. that we can't even sit through an entire radio-length song? Please.

Shows like this used to go out of their way to showcase musicians and performers of all sorts to give the public a little something (instead of just watching two windbags flap their lips about their spouses and kids all morning).

News Worthy????....Who cares!....Couldn't you find anything important to discuss?

A couple of things:

1. Blow me. This is an entertainment website, dealing with the idiots of the media world. The story was topical to the site. If you want news, read CNN.com.

2. There is no #2. Blow me again.

Ringo may not be the most famous of the beatles and you bet dollars to donuts that if Paul McCartney were going to perform on this stupid show that they would have interrupted their normal show order to make sure the entire song is broadcast. The fact that it was only Ringo should be a slap to the face of every performer that goes on the show.

This shows the kind of mentality that goes with television. Especially daytime television like this worthless, petty little show.

Maybe if Regis could sacrifice one of his "I was in the Hamptons..." stories and if Gelman didn't need his useless 10 second close-up to act as Regis's Lap boy they could find the time for this Rock Legend...shame on Live!
