TMZ and Hypocracy

I said I wasn't going to post any more things about Paris Hilton. And I am not. This isn't about that skank. Its about TMZ.com.

You have to appreciate TMZ's tenacity for making even the most uneventful, non-news video clip seem like the second coming of Christ.

So Paris goes into a sex shop in Canada, dressed in a skeleton hoodie/costume/whatever and apparently finds her unauthorized sex tape being sold on the shelves.

Here's how TMZ put it:
"Paris goes ballistic after seeing how the shop is hawking her sex tape. TMZ has obtained the surveillance video which shows the confrontation, start to finish."

Ooooo! It sounds good, right?

Well here's the dialog:

P: Hey is there a manager in here?

Clerk: (unintelligible)

P: No, I just need to ask him something. Um...I really want those taken down.

That's it. In a 30 second clip, Paris states in a calm voice, "I really want those taken down."
That's Paris going "ballistic," according to TMZ.

I am continually amazed at the level to which stalkerazzi sites like TMZ will sensationalize even the most mundane exchanges. Its like they expect the entire world to fall off its axis if they don't document every mundane microsecond of some vapidly vain z-list celebrity.

Americans need to stop concerning themselves about whatever some tawdry trollop is doing every second of the day and instead pay attention to what our own elected leadership is doing to screw up our lives.

Yes, I know it is hypocritical of me to say this while I run a website that specializes in the news and reviews of all things Hollywood, but stuff like this just pisses me off. We know more about Lindsay Lohan than we do our own Congress. We can recite lyrics to an Amy Winehouse song, but we don't know the 10 amendments to the constitution.

We live our trivial little lives completely oblivious to the fact that we have an apathetic congress and a lame-duck, war-mongering president that breaks the law whenever he feels like it.

And yet no one seems to care.
