Chili Peppers Sue Showtime Over Californication

I knew it was only a matter of time before I saw this: According to Yahoo! News, The Red Hot Chili Peppers are suing Showtime Networks over the name of the television series "Californication," which is also the name of the band's 1999 album and a single on it.:

"Californication is the signature CD, video and song of the band's career, and for some TV show to come along and steal our identity is not right," the band's lead singer, Anthony Kiedis, said in a statement.

Does Anthony and company really think they came up with the name all on their own? I've lived in Los Angeles all my life. I have heard the word "Californication" long before the Chili Peppers decided to use it for an album title.

Do they really think they own the creation of the word or is this just a PR ploy to keep the band in the limelight a little longer?
