Early Review of Sweeney Todd

Steve Biodrowski over at Cinefantastique managed to finagle his way into a sneak screening of Sweeney Todd. And of course, he loved it:

The movie is pretty much your dream of what it would be, when you first heard that Burton and Johnny Depp would be turning the Stephen Sondheim musical into a movie: it’s a dark, brooding horror-musical-comedy that hits all the right notes.

I sincerely hope that this is a legitimate review and not something David Manning would write.

David Manning, indeed!

I actually wrote a critical analysis of the David Manning phenomenon (or more precisely, a look at the trends that led up to the creation of Manning). Maybe that will help convince you I'm legit. You can read it here: http://www.hollywoodgothique.com/phoneyfilmcritics.html

That analysis is very good. Other than getting Roger Ebert's name wrong, I think you hit the nail on the head. The lemmings that see movies know only what the studios tell them. Its up to critics and bloggers to call bullshit on the things Hollywood does. Never be afraid to do a little research.

Sorry for suggesting you were a David Manning. I see now you actually are a real person that knows a thing or two about film.

Thanks for the info!

Oops, can't believe I missped "Robert" [sic] Ebert.
