Father and son stop at gas station and the son goes gets a slushy. Son is stuck in store with masked men and ends up being killed. Father is upset and decides to take things into his own hands at the risk of his safety and that of his family. Death Sentence.

It was long movie. There is a long chase scene that I think could have been cut in half and Kevin Bacon’s transformation with the guns could have been shorter as well. I think there was too much dead time that ruined the flow of the movie. On top of that the music, in most places, was out of place. It was loud and annoying because I could hear it. The problem with that is that movie music is supposed to help the movie along and not be something that is heard. Of course you hear it but it shouldn’t be heard as in noticed more so than what is going on in the film. It was distracting and I don’t know who picked the music but it was over the top. It made some of the moments cheesy. There is a second person who gets killed in the gas station and what’s annoying is there is no mention of who that person is and it has no baring on the story at all. It was really only for shock value.

I did not like the trailer because it ruined the entire movie for me. I could dictate what was going to happen based on what I had yet to see that I saw in the trailer and that ruins surprises. I did not like how the police reacted as if they were stupid and the bad guys were smart. It’s not a matter of having anyone smarter than the other it’s just that believability of what was going on was failing. It made cops seem like they are just donut eating idiots and full of detectives that don’t care about anyone who isn’t a killer.

The only great thing about this movie was John Goodman. His acting was good for the amount of time he had and he looked like a grease monkey lunatic. That fit well for his part and he made the movie bearable.

Death Sentence is not a movie I would want to see ever again or buy. I think that it failed on many things and only succeeded in having John Goodman. Kevin Bacon was a little too whiney for me and there was not really a lot of chemistry between the family that was suppose to be cared about and Bacon. Though the scene with Bacon and the youngest son in the hospital was decent just not something that would pull the tears out of the eyes. So over all Death Sentence was exactly that a movie that kills you minute by minute. You’ll have less brain cells after a viewing than you did before. Warning has been implemented view at your own risk.
