No big surprises this weekend at the box office, which seemed to have a bit of a lull. Matt Damon's Bourne Ultimatum was the huge draw this weekend, earning over 70 mil and trumping "The Simpsons Movie" by over $44 million. "Simpsons" fell a staggering 65% from its opening weekend. Guess all the nerds who saw it last week didnt feel the need to see it again.
Underdog took third, Harry Potter clung to #6, Transformers held on to #8 and the toy commercial disguised as a movie (Bratz) took the 10 spot.
Here's the tale of the tape for the top 10:
1 The Bourne Ultimatum $70,180,500
2 The Simpsons Movie $25,600,000
3 Underdog $12,009,000
4 I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry $10,528,000
5 Hairspray $9,325,000
6 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix $9,285,000
7 No Reservations $6,570,000
8 The Transformers $5,950,000
9 Hot Rod $5,015,000
10 Bratz $4,310,000
Opening next week is Brett Ratner's attempt to keep Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker employed with "Rush Hour 3," the Neil Gaimen story "Stardust" and the Cuba Gooding Jr. kid flick (oh how the mighty have fallen) "Daddy Day Camp." My guess is that these three flicks should bump Ultimatum and Simpsons to the middle of the top 10 with no significant difficulty.
