Branson vs Colbert: the Water Fight?

I'm still wondering if this was planned or is actually just a moment that will forever be remembered by only those that were in the audience at the time.

Apparently this past Tuesday during a taping of "The Colbert Report," mega-gazillionaire Sir Richard Branson got into some kind of a disagreement with Stephen while they were on the set, that resulted in Branson throwing his mug of water at Colbert, to which Colbert then retaliated.

Here is a run down of the events that happened from someone that was in the audience at the time, posted on the site, No Fact Zone:

I haven’t posted a recap anywhere else, but I’ll spill it here first. Branson was apparently upset that he wasn’t able to give a direct plug to the new Virgin service and doused Colbert with his guest mug of water. Stephen was DRENCHED. He took a beat, then signalled for his own “ammunition” for about twenty seconds until Alison (Silverman) ran and gave him her bottle of water, and Stephen retaliated. The two of them sat for a VERY uncomfortable second looking like two wet cats. Then Stephen thanked him for coming. I really don’t think it was planned, since Stephen had another bit to introduce (the American Samoa Better Know a Protectorate) and a full interview left to do. They had to get him a new jacket and even broke out a blowdryer. Everyone in the crew had a “WTF?” reaction.

So was this a staged event? Silverman, being the consummate professional producer that she is would never allow something like this to happen, much less hand Colbert a mug of water to fire back at Branson.

Its only a matter of time before someone that was in the control room and with access to the tapes leaks the footage onto the net. I think it would be nothing but great publicity for the show (not that it needs it) Maybe even Colbert will do it for us. Who knows?

If we find out anything more, we'll let you know.

It's a pretty good summary, but you'll want to check out my blog for what REALLY happened to Sir Dick.
