Mysterious things are happening around the world and the Fantastic Four are called upon to help figure it out. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Over all I really liked the movie. I thought it was well done and very Fantastic Foury. I think that there are some stupid critics out there who just don’t get superhero movies and therefore their opinion really is null and void because of their ineptness. Also those that are suppose fans of comics who whine about every detail not being the same are worthless. I’m neither. I am a fan of Fantastic Four and I’m a critic but I know what I’m talking about.

The first movie Fantastic Four was good. It was just like the comic book and it was entertaining. I like how Tim Story tells…well a story. Interesting to note Don Payne is the script writer for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer who also writes for The Simpsons. He has also written My Super Ex-Girlfriend. Anyway…Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben were all just like they are portrayed in those comics I’ve read. This movie is no different. They were the same and they saved the world from the oncoming of destruction from the Silver Surfer via an intergalactic meany head.

Ioan Gruffudd is a perfect Mr. Fantastic. Jessica Alba is a great Invisible Woman. Chris Evans is the Human Torch and Michael Chiklis has got the Thing down. I can’t imagine any other four taking on these roles other than those that have them now. This includes Julian McMahon’s Dr. Doom. He has a great way of dictating him so well I enjoy it.

The CIG work was very nice. The fight scenes were cool and the use of powers to save people was pretty awesome. I believe Mr. Fantastic is the hardest one to make live action out of all the four. He stretches. There’s nothing to really base reality on with that. It’s not like fire where you know what someone might look like encased in fire or like a rock man who is just rock---he stretches like rubber band and that in it self makes it different and weird and complicated. I think they did will even so. Then there’s Kerry Washington as Alisha Masters who was in the first film. She is blind and is the girlfriend of Ben/The Thing. She has a more prominent roll in this film and most of it’s amusing.

The one thing that was always unique with the Fantastic Four was that their identities were known because they become famous. People would take their pictures and follow them around like they were movie stars. They touch on that in this movie and I liked that because they are not like the X-Men or Spider-Man they are all out in the open and dealing with that plus dealing with villains and disasters that are to take on the world can be a bit stressful even for those that have cosmic powers.

Now the Silver Surfer was very awesome. Just wow. I though he looked amazing. Weta Digital is who created the Silver Surfer. They would be the same company that gave the world Gollum for The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Then there was Galactus. Some people will like it and think whoa and some will just think aww why not just like the comic. I think that what they did was a great idea and I’d argue the point against anyone who didn’t. The Baxter Building got a huge make over and looks tons better than it did in the first and I suppose that has something to do with the “endorsements” they’ve received.

The story is simple and easy to follow. This isn’t a Batman movie or a thriller where things are bogged down in confusion until the end rolls around to reveal. This is simple so that children can pay attention and even though it might cater to child mentality it still had the entertainment value to keep those who are not’s attention.

Just like the X-Men Trilogy and the Spider-Man Trilogy as a whole I wish the Fantastic Four movies were longer. I would really enjoy a longer superhero movie. I had to endure a good hour before I got to see action in Titanic with the ship sinking…this would be the least they could do give me longer superhero movies. Within the time limit that they had the story was well done and there were amusing parts just like a Fantastic Four comic. The one thing I think they could have done was added a character like Alisha’s father because he becomes the Puppet Master and then people would get to know him and like him and then BOOM he changes into evil mean man who controls people. Oh yeah…well it sounds good to me.

If that ending to the movie doesn’t give clue to what the next movie is going to be about I don’t know----my brother was like that’s just where he landed and I was like NO, NO, NO that’s a dead giveaway of where they are taking the next movie. But that’s just me I suppose. Ha.

The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is a movie I am buying. I own the first one and love it so I to will own this one. I love comic books and I can’t get enough of the movies they are creating in Hollywood. Simply put this movie is just as the title suggests: Fantastic!
