Husband and wife are driving and end up staying a hotel because their car breaks down. They have had a long day and are tired. They do not get any shut eye because they have unwelcome noises and visitors that keep them from getting any.
Vacancy is a good suspense/horror film to me. I’m not into such a genre because I find them repetitive and boring. But when I saw that Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale were going to be a part of it I had to give it a chance.
There was no moment that I felt that they did something stupid like I feel when I see other horror type movies. I feel like I’m watching idiots r us with most horror films. This one was different and I liked that. Of course it could not be too different or it wouldn’t be a horror film.
I like the chemistry between Wilson and Beckinsale. I like that their characters had arguments that were full of banter and eye rolling. I liked how there were little hints dropped here and there about why they are so pissy at one another. There was no need for flashbacks just lines that explained enough to understand without going into grave detail.
The end of the movie had a nice moment with a car and it was exactly what I wanted to happen at the end. I was hoping it would happen and it did happen so that added to me being pleasantly surprised by this movie. It’s like a nice little dream come true that someone in a horror film does something that they should do instead of always doing what they shouldn’t do and then dying. I really like towards the beginning when they first get into the room and they hear the loud knocking going on and the door slams. That was freaky and I like being freaked out. It’s the whole reason I would even like a horror movie if it gave me the freaked out feeling instead of the oh my god they are stupid feeling. Some people love the cheese horror movies I am not one of those people.
I’m not going to be owning Vacancy. It’s not my type of movie. I was entertained though and I did think it was worth seeing. I don’t know if people who love the horror genre will actually LOVE this movie but I do know that if you like smart horror movies instead of dumb ones you will most likely like Vacancy. So give it a chance instead of leaving a vacant seat---FILL that seat and see it. Hahaha now that was cheesy.
