Blades of Glory is about two famous male skaters by the names of Chazz Michael Michaels and Jimmy MacElroy. Chazz is the rock and roller and Jimmy is the emo bird. They have a rivalry that gets them kicked out of their Ice Skating Division because of a fight on the medal podium. Then this idea comes along that they could skate as pairs and then a very unlikely friendship is formed. They become a powerhouse on the ice---one in which no one has ever seen quite like it.
I wanted to see this movie since I saw the trailer. What drew me to it were the ideal and the fact that it had Will Ferrell and Jon Heder in it. I was not disappointed. It was funnier than I had anticipated. I was pleasantly surprised by the whole movie once the ending arrived. Ferrell’s movies have me laughing most of the time so it was a no brainier that I’d be seeing this movie. Heder has that physical comedy down with his facial expressions that are comical. He, alone, can make a movie so parried with Farrell I had a feeling it would be a great movie and I was right.
There is not a lot that could have been done to make the movie better. Maybe if they added a bit more funny or had a funny clip at the end. Maybe they did have a clip at the end after all the credits. I sort of left as the credits were rolling so I might have missed it. But if it didn’t happen then that could make it better. I’m sure on the DVD they’ll have outlandish outtakes. That’ll make me want it.
There were people outside wanting people’s opinions of the movie and I gave mine. One of the questions on the sheet was what were the best scenes? I couldn’t list them all. I really loved them all. If I mention one I’ll have to mention another and then another and then another.
The costumes that were in this movie were so out there. I thought it was awesome that there were some famous skaters in this movie who decided to be in the movie knowing it was going to poke fun at their profession. That gave them a lot of creed on not taking themselves too seriously.
The first scene has a little boy skating. That scene was funny because of what the boy was wearing. I’ve never seen a little boy wear something like that and if I did I’d laugh at them because it’s just not something a boy should wear. There’s the scene where Jimmy and Chazz have their single skate. Their performances were so funny because they were so weird and silly. The commentators had phrases that were, of course, made up for the movie and were so hahahaha. Chazz being in a child’s show on ice deal was funny because of his drinking. Jimmy and his stalker having a bizarre conversation and his undying support is also a very funny scene.
It’s hard to write what scenes were so BAM! when they were all awesome. Farrell and Heder get a gold medal for their paired comedic performances. I expect them to be in another movie together. They would be and could be one of the best comedy pairs in movie history. They played off of one another so well.
If you are looking for highbrow comedy this isn’t for you. You should know that based on the movies that Heder and Farrell have put out. If you’re not a fan of either you’ll not be a fan of this. If you are a fan of either you will enjoy this movie. It’s just funny. It’s good fun with great silly humor. The story line isn’t complicated and the villains that show up in the movie are not easily hated as they are easy to laugh at.
Blades of Glory is a movie that I laughed loud and proud during and I am so buying it. I’m sitting here thinking about it and I can’t think of one scene that I didn’t think was funny. It could be one of my favorite comedies of all time along with Clue. The one reason I love Clue is because of the physical comedy in it was so classic and timelessly funny. I think that Blades of Glory will be timeless like that.
It’s not like other movies where it’s gross humor or sexual humor all the way through. Movies like that may be funny once through or a few times through but won’t hold that humor for years to come---they are just timely humor as in people of now will think it’s funny not people years later. Arsenic and Old Lace and Young Frankenstein come to mind of movies from the past that are just so freakin’ funny now as they were then…if not more so.
Blades of Glory had a HAHA run with me and I’m sure it’ll get lots of people laughing this weekend and many weekends into the future---even 10 to 20 years from now. It’s that silly funny good. If you are someone that can laugh loud and proud then don’t wait GO SEE IT NOW because you’ll laugh now, later and even many moons later---it’s classic humor good man.
