Russel Crowe as the Sheriff of Nottingham

Variety reports that Universal Pictures and mega producer Brian Grazer have obtained the spec script for "Nottingham" and have attached Russel Crowe to the flick for the low low price of $20 mil.

"Nottingham" is based on the premise that Robin Hood was less virtuous and the sheriff more noble than previously depicted. Story also involves a love triangle between Robin Hood, Maid Marion and Nottingham's sheriff.

"He's trying to do the right thing, but he's up against Robin Hood, who's becoming heroic while not necessarily acting in the nicest way," explained Reiff, a history buff.

We have no clue who "Reiff" is, but this re-write of history sounds plausible and more importantly, profitable for the studio, which fought against New Line and several others to nab the script - written in the hopes that it would be a nice cash cow.

In typical Hollywood fashion, a story about Robin Hood will involve robbing from the rich and poor alike (movie goers) and giving to the filthy rich instead.
