Ghost Rider is a Marvel Comic book character. Johnny Blaze sells his soul to Mephesto (I know in the movie it’s a different name but it’s not totally different…I just like this name it’s cooler and shorter) to cure his dad. Mephesto explains to him that in the future he will come back and use him. When that day comes Johnny Blaze turns into the Ghost Rider and is used to battle Blackheart and his gang.
I love Marvel because of the characters but I have to admit that Ghost Rider is not one of my favorites. I understand the comic book and I understand how he came to be and knowing that makes it interesting. It’s just he’s not a character I can relate to so I don’t have a whole lot of interest in him. But because he is a Marvel character I have to see it so as to support Marvel to keep the Marvel movies coming.
The movie itself was entertaining. It wasn’t grand but entertaining as a superhero movie should be. I love how they did Ghost Rider he looked awesome. Nicholas Cage did a great job and so did Wes Bentley as Blackheart. I really like how they did Blackheart he was very spooky as he should be. I liked the gang he brought together but I was sad that the gang didn’t get a lot of screen time to show off their powers but they looked awesome. They were the four elements so those were cool effects.
There was good humor in the movie. Good to have humor because it wouldn’t be a comic book like movie if it didn’t have some sort of humor and banter in there. There was good action but not a lot of fighting. There’s not a huge battle scene. Ghost Rider’s penance stare is awesome. I love the effects on the person he is doing it too. The eyes of the victim are like lava. It’s just wicked. The motorcycle was HOT. It just looked cool and I really wanted it and I don’t even have a need or a wanting for a motorcycle.
I didn’t like how the ending Blackheart used the name Legion. If I’m not mistaken they took that from the Bible. The reason I don’t like that is because if I am to understand this correctly Mephesto’s realm is not Hell it’s a dimension that looks like Hell. So he’s not a the Devil as the movie presents him. I can understand them changing Mephesto from always being red to wearing black so it’s more serious but I don’t get why they had to make it Hell when it’s not. Is it better for commercial success with the horror lovers out there?
I’m not going to be buying this film, that’s for sure. I was entertained and that’s about it. I would see it again and I would suggest if you don’t like comic book like movies not seeing this movie. If you like Cage you will most likely like this movie. He is one of the reasons I really wanted to see it. I think he’s a great actor. Ghost Rider was an interesting ride just not heroic enough for me to woohoo---I’ll save my woohoo for Spider-Man and Fantastic Four (both trailers played before Ghost Rider I was so giddy.)
